Let's Make 2012 The Year For Humans

Am I alone in being really ****ed off at the advent of self-checkouts?

We have over 2 Million of our fellow UK Citizens unemployed, yet some retailers seem to have the need to automate more out of their jobs.

Can it really be better to buy expensive machines that require "coaches" to explain how they can be used? Surely the minimum wage paid to a member of staff is better value than such nonsense?

I have never used a self-check out device and never will. I think of all my friends' children desperately looking for a job -ANY JOB- and my conscience steers me to a manned till.

IF WE ALL DID THE SAME THE RETAILERS INVOLVED WOULD REMOVE THE SELF SERVICE EQUIPMENT. Why don't YOU give it a try?

Of course, it is not just self-checkouts causing unemployment.

Almost every catering or retail operator seems to be trying to cut back on staff, even if they really need them.

Example, I visited a Fullers Pub the other day for some lunch. I ordered at the bar (all I needed was a couple of "starters") and was told not to be in a hurry because they were busy!

BUT ACTUALLY THEY WERE NOT VERY BUSY-THEY SIMPLY DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH STAFF IN THE KITCHEN!

I ended up waiting almost an hour for my starters - a total disgrace!

So come on Fullers: your beer is good BUT you need to be "good with food" as well! Rather than buying more pubs, hire some more staff to improve service in those you already own.

THE SAME ADVICE APPLIES TO ALL SERVICE PROVIDERS WHO HAVE OVERDONE STAFF CUTS.

In many businesses, more people working = more sales = higher profits.

THAT MAKES GOOD SENSE FOR US ALL - INCLUDING UK PLC!
