Put a Spring in your step by carrying cash

Posted on: 16/04/2012

Spring 2012 seems to be full of Bank Holiday bliss; after the recent Easter weekend we still have the impending May Day holiday and the Diamond Jubilee to look forward to and we're all busy planning how to make the most of their three- or four-day weekends of freedom from the office.

Holidays, days out, lunches with friends, the enjoyment options are limitless. However, so is the temptation to over-spend!

While the odd Bank Holiday indulgence is all well and good – be it a tasty lunch at your local pub or an amazing day out with the family – we at Cash-is-Cool urge you not to let your spending get out of hand, particularly at a time when bank balances and accounts won’t be as easily accessible.

So, the best way to budget for a Spring Holiday? Cash of course! There’s no better way to put the brakes on any extra spending than by restricting yourself to a cash-only spending regime.

On the first morning of a long weekend (or indeed the evening before), think about your plans for the weekend and work out a quick budget. Head to your nearest cash machine and withdraw the amount that you think you’ll need to fully enjoy the long weekend (and try to be as honest as possible!). Store the money somewhere safe and at the start of each day, take out as much cash as you’ll need.

We think you’ll be really impressed at just how easy – and effective! – a cash budget can be when you’re hoping to stop over-spending. By keeping a physical check on what’s going out of your pocket each time you head to the shops, you’ll be able to keep better tabs on your budget. And, we think you’ll find you save a lot of time at the tills not having to wait for a card machine to start working!

We’d love to hear how you guys get on with your Spring Holiday budgeting – comment below or tweet us @Cash_is_Cool.
