Cash-is-Cool:
Our Reason For Being

Cash is under threat across our planet.

Card schemes hate cash, as they can only wring profit from their debt-creating plastic products.

Visa and MasterCard have both made clear that cash is their enemy. Since 90% of all purchases on our planet are made using cash, this enemy of the card schemes must be the trusty friend of humanity.

Cash-is-Cool is working tirelessly to defend cash from predatory card schemes.

My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: I think it is going to cause a lot of problems if Visa are able to force a situation where only their debit, credit or pre-paid cards are accepted as payment in and around the Olympic Stadium. This relies on everyone who is attending the Olympics to be aware of this situation and to be willing to comply with it. It is likely to cause a lot of embarrassment and problems if people are trying to pay by other methods, such as other payment processors or by cash and find that they might not be able to do so. If there is only one possible method of payment, then there is huge pressure on that technology to be working accurately and correctly and if it fails, then there is a potential for a huge disaster. I suppose it could be a hackers’ and fraudsters’ paradise – after all, if they potentially only had to take out one system to wreck total havoc, that would be much easier than multiple systems. I would imagine that Visa’s plan for a cashless system at the Olympics would be well supported by the government, despite any mumblings to the contrary because it sets the systems in place for the Government to move forward with the removal of the usage of cash in the society as a whole. It is quite a scary situation that one company, Visa, should be allowed to totally dictate and control how anything and everything is paid for around the Olympics. It potentially has a lot of wider and more far-reaching consequences. Hometown: Tamworth, Midlands Age: 45

My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: Well, I hope we win lots of medals but I am staying out of London and I'm not very impressed by Visa. It's easier to deal in cash as you can keep track of your spending, when it's gone it's gone, not a huge debt for later. One tiny aside, though, why has the number 5 disappeared from 5p coins, how does that help anyone? Hometown: Newcastle upon Tyne Age: 42

My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: I feel that to London 2012 games are a chance to show the country is still great. They are here to support England's next generation through sport with the new centers and facilities that we are building and the tourism will help ease the burden on the public's pockets.the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow and should be the ones primarily considered.i have fallen victim to bank charges at the age of 18 as schools forget to teach important things i wish i had been on this site years ago it has taught me alot. My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: There is something tangible and enriching about cash which just isn't there with a credit card. My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: I think the London 2012 Olympic Games are a terrific idea, if they are executed thoughtfully. They should be seen and marketed as a celebration of London as a centre for sport and inclusiveness. The dangers are, of course, of spiralling costs and nationalistic smugness, not to mention the environmental costs. However, if such aspects are put into consideration then why not just enjoy the festival in all its excess?

I was (and still am) very excited about the Olympics coming to London. But from the initial release of the details on the application process for tickets, I was concerned about the extent to which Visa's sponsorship of the games was determining this. It seemed to me entirely unfair that it was only possible to apply online for the tickets if you had a Visa card. But to restrict the use of cash at the actual Games themselves seems foolish - for British people it's useful to keep control of your money through cash, but for foreign visitors, using cards can be very costly. When tourists are boosting our economy with their cash, it doesn't seem the kindest welcome. I would also have concerns about the security of handling so many card transactions, when there are so many other things for security to be concerning themselves as well. Brighton 27

My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: I am speaking for alot of people when i say; that paying with cards is not an efficent way of spending money, as you would end up spending more than we earn, causing alot of finanical prooblems. So cash is definately cool on that hand. There is also the security aspect where visa cards are an easy target for fraud.

My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: I think that the Olympic games in 2012 are going to be fantastic. it will be the most memorable event in Britain. But there are certain downfalls about the Games which are that not every person will get to view the games without sitting in front of the television. Every person in England should get to see at least one event.

My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: Cards are all very well but when it comes to truly being able to monitor how much you are spending it's much easier to do with cash. You know how much you got out of the machine and when, if you find it's running out too quickly you cut back a little. How easy is it to hand over a card again and again and again and then realise you've just spent you whole month's spends in the first weekend of the month? Nowhere will this be more true than when deciding what to buy in and around the Olympic Village. With food, drinks and souvenirs all on offer it will be only too easy for people to go quickly into debt on cards. With cash you can monitor and consider where you are best spending that money. Also how many 10 year olds have visa cards? Yet the look of joy on childrens faces when they save up and buy something with their own money as a souvenir of a great event is priceless.

My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: I think that the olympic games should be a cash friendly environment because the paper money and the coins of our country are the stamp of our heritage. You don't get the queens face on a bank card, you can't feel the texture of the hard earned cash on a piece of plastic.

The Olympics will be a great boost for the country, particularly in such times of austerity. My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: The Olympic Games have been a part of the world's culture since the times of the Romans. For the Roman to create such an event that would bring the people from all regions of the world together as one and still continue to this day is phenomenal. Its a huge part of modern life and the bringing together of so many people at once from so many places is a big achievement. Not only does this event now bring around a lot of friendly competition between different countries, but also brings around a sense of world at peace for the duration of the Olympic Games. Happiness and peace brought about by an event that happened hundreds of years ago, you cannot deny that the modern Olympics is a brilliant thing.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live in the country that is hosting the olympics. It will bring visitors from far and wide and england can show the world what makes us great. My thoughts on the London 2012 Olympic Games: Many visitors from overseas will bring cash to use in order to avoid the extortionate amounts the majority of banks charge for using debit and credit cards abroad. If you are not comfortable with a foreign currency knowing the value of the amount of cash you have on you could help you be more responsible with your spending. Where as if you use a credit card to purchase and you are not sure of the exchange rate you could easily spend more than expected.
