Act Now To Keep Cash On The Buses

Transport for London (TfL) are consulting with the public on whether cash should continue to be accepted for fares on London Buses.

TfL are of course huge promoters of card use, especially their own Oyster card. In the face of the Publics continued preference for cash, TfL long ago resorted to massively discounting fares paid for with an Oyster. It costs £4 to travel one stop on London Underground if you pay by cash but less than £2 using Oyster.Similar discounts apply on buses.

The extra charge made for cash use has nothing to do with the costs TfL face for cash handling.Every year, the British Retail Consortium reveals that cash is the cheapest payment method for retailers to process. Why can't TfL use cash as efficiently? BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO!

So please respond to TfL by 11 October, the consultation closing date, telling them where to get off for trying to dictate to Londoners and tourists as to which payment method they cash use.

When only cards can be used, the heavy discounting of fares will soon end.

Keep cash and choice on the buses, for the benefit of all.
